The Southport Mini Movers program is a student-led initiative that repurposes standard motorized ride-on toys into custom mobility solutions for children with physical disabilities. By modifying the electronics—such as replacing foot pedals with hand-actuated buttons—and adding structural postural supports, students create accessible vehicles tailored to each child's specific needs. This technical process serves as a practical STEAM learning platform, allowing students to apply engineering principles to solve real-world challenges while gaining experience in electrical wiring and empathetic design. 

The primary goal of these modifications is to provide independent mobility, offering a playful and age-appropriate alternative to traditional power wheelchairs. These electric vehicles allow children to explore their surroundings and interact with their peers more freely, fostering essential developmental milestones like confidence and spatial awareness.
